Invisalign® Q&A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign are clear plastic aligners customized to your bite. They gently encourage your teeth to glide into better alignment. The aligners are designed after your consultation with your orthodontist. They work with Invisalign technology to develop a comprehensive treatment plan that gets you a smile you can’t wait to show off.

What types of bite problems can Invisalign address?

Invisalign can help most bite problems, including:

  • Overbite and underbite
  • Crossbite and open bite
  • Crowded teeth
  • Large spaces between teeth
  • Generally crooked teeth

Even if you have several teeth alignment problems, Invisalign can help.

How are Invisalign aligners created?

Invisalign comes as a set of aligners that you change out every week or two as your teeth gently change position. Once you have decided Invisalign is right for you, your provider takes a 3D scan of your teeth. This image is sent to the Invisalign lab for fabrication.

Your aligners arrive about six weeks later. You come to the Get It Straight Orthodontics and Family Dentistry office to have them set and learn how to care for them and switch them out at home.

How do I benefit from Invisalign?

Invisalign aligners are clear and barely noticeable.

They provide other benefits over regular braces, such as:

  • No dietary restrictions: You take the trays out to eat and drink
  • Easy hygiene: You remove the trays to brush and floss
  • Comfortable wear: The aligners cause minimal rubbing or friction
  • Fewer emergency visits: There are no brackets or wires that can break
  • Fewer checkups: You only see the doctor once every six to eight weeks

If you play a contact sport, you can remove the aligners during your activity. You can also remove them for special events that require photos.

Teens especially enjoy the convenience of Invisalign, and parents can rest assured their child is wearing them as recommended. Invisalign features a blue indicator tab that can tell parents and dentists if the aligners are being worn enough to get results.

How long do I have to wear Invisalign?

Your Invisalign plan lasts 1-2 years, depending on your particular bite concerns. You must commit to wearing the aligners for 20-22 hours each day, including while you sleep. This wear plan gets you the best possible results.
